What does Buckram mean?

A buckram is a stiff fabric that headwear manufacturers use to reinforce the front panels of a hat and increase its profile. All hats that use a buckram are considered structured.

Inversely, if a hat has no buckram it will have softer front panels, a lower profile and is usually considered unstructured.
